Frequently asked questions
What cinema camera packages can your drones carry?
Our Freefly Alta X drone is optimized for full cinema payloads, including the ARRI Alexa 35, Sony Venice 2 and RED V-Raptor with cinema primes or compact zoom lenses. The DJI Inspire 3 features an integrated full-frame 8K camera and is ideal for fast, efficient aerial filming on feature films, TV series and commercial productions.
Are you certified for urban drone flight in Norway?
Yes. Motion Air holds EASA "Specific" category permits. We handle all necessary coordination with Avinor (Air Traffic Control) and local police to ensure legal and safe operations in urban areas like Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim.
What is the typical setup time for a heavy-lift drone mission on set?
Our Alta X and Inspire 3 setups are built for efficient on-set workflow. A standard heavy-lift cinema package is typically flight-ready in around 45 minutes, while the Inspire 3 can often be airborne in under 10 minutes from arrival.
Do you provide live HD video downlink for the director and client monitors?
Yes. We utilize DJI Transmission and Teradek Bolt systems to provide low-latency, 1080p/60fps wireless video feeds to video village, ensuring the Director and DP have a crystal-clear view of the aerial composition.
How do you handle drone operations in extreme cold or Arctic conditions?
With experience in temperatures down to -34°C, we use specialized battery warming protocols, insulated flight cases, and moisture-prevention techniques to ensure electronics and sensors remain reliable in harsh Norwegian winter environments.
Can you fly drones indoors or in confined forest environments?
Yes. For tight spaces or forest tracking, we utilize smaller, agile platforms with prop guards or the Inspire 3's precision positioning sensors to maintain safety while getting the camera close to the action.
Can you handle the SORA and flight permits for international productions entering Norway?
Yes. Motion Air manages the entire regulatory process, including SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment) and local municipality permits. We serve as the local technical partner for international crews, ensuring all flights are fully compliant with EASA and Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority (Luftfartstilsynet) regulations.
